Even though the work week is over, I’m not completely free from work for the weekend. Why? Because this weekend is the Office Holiday Party. Yes, it bears capitalization. Office holiday parties seem to occupy some interesting space in the cultural lexicon, leading me to have a very stereotyped idea of what they are like. I’ve never been to one before, so it’ll be fun to see what parts of the stereotype bear out and what parts never come to pass. I’m hoping to see some lampshades on heads, but I’m not holding my breath.
All silliness aside, I’m actually looking forward to it. It should be nice to see a larger cross-section of people out of the context of the office than the usual happy hour crowd. Also JP is coming with me, as are the partners of many of my coworkers. I think it will be really fun to find out a little bit more about these people with whom I spend such a large chunk of my life.
One thing I have found challenging in preparing for this event though is finding the right thing to wear. Most of my “cocktail party” dresses just seem a little too risque for the office crowd. Call me crazy, but I want to show as little of my decolletage as possible to my office mates! So . . . I bought a new dress – which is making me look forward to the whole all the more. It’ll be fun to get all dolled up for a change.

Congrats to all those NaBloPoMo-ers who managed to tap out daily posts this month. Well done!
I do like the excuse to buy a new dress. I so rarely wear anything but suits that the chance to get fancy is a real treat.
Thoreau was wrong– one shouldn’t beware enterprises that require new clothes, one should embrace them! Hope the party is fun.
